  • It could also hide from predators in an aquarium where it will be brought food every day and get medicine from a veterinarian if it gets sick. An Aquarium is the safest place for the octopus to live, so why wouldn’t it’s survival instinct tell it to live there to hide from predators?

We should set up an experiment with an aquarium that allows the octopus access to the ocean. Do you really think the Octopus would run away from the aquarium where it’s safe from predators and gets fed every day?

  • Yes and for all we know the octopus prefers to live in a place safe from predators, always has lots of food, and a veterinarian on call when it gets sick.

It’s strange to me that people anthropomorphize animals to make big claims about the animal wanting to live in the wild. If you release that animal into the wild it will likely be eaten or starve but everyone assumes the animal wants that based on absolutely nothing.

Why not anthropomorphize animals under the assumption they would want a life similar to what we’ve built for ourselves? Is the validity of the complete guesses about what an animal wants gain merit based on how holier than thou the people making the guesses are acting about it?

Bottom line, the octopus is safer living in an aquarium with ample food than living in an environment amongst predators where food is scarce. All animals have a strong survival instinct (they’d be extinct if they didn’t) so it’s more likely if an animal could communicate it’s preferences, it would choose the option where it’s most likely to survive for a very long time, so it would choose living in an aquarium.

If a I scream “RELEASING ANIMALS INTO THE WILD IS MURDER!!!” over and over again, does that make it a more compelling argument?

  • The octopus went back to it’s tank after getting a snack. That’s at least some indication the octopus likes living there.

You are assuming the octopus prefers living out in the wild where it could be eaten alive. Who are you to assume what an animal wants?

Are you currently living in some kind rectangular structure where you have easy access to regular meals? Why are you living in this way and assuming an octopus wouldn’t also prefer this? There’s nothing preventing you from leaving the rectangular structure you’re currently living in and going out into the wilds and fending for yourself to survive. Why don’t you do the thing you’re assuming the octopus wants to do?

  • Yup. And also they could take some more risks. There were a lot of strange new worlds that might’ve been a little too strange and didn’t quite work. But that was fine since there would be a bunch of episodes where it did work.

With a shorter run, the risky episodes that don’t work represent a larger percentage of the season. So the writers either have to play it safe or risk a large portion of the season no working.

  • The best selling comic book of all time was X-Men #1. No it’s not the first X-Men comic from the 1970s, it was a comic Marvel released in the 90s. The collectors all bought it because it was a #1 thinking it would be worth a lot of money some day. And this is exactly why Marvel did this.

Right now there’s probably at least a million copies of that comic preserved in mint condition by collectors. It’s worth about what they paid for it in the 90s… because there’s so many out there.

  • Teacher tells a kid to be careful of social media, but the kid’s favourite influencer tells the kid their teacher is lame and they shouldn’t listen to that. Who is the kid going to believe.

Also we don’t let kids into bars until they’re of a certain age. Sure kids are going to still do shenanigans to get in and sometimes they might succeed, but it reduces children getting drunk at bars by significant amount. And even when kids are able to do something they’re prohibited from, they at least know it’s not a normal thing and might understand there’s danger in what they’re doing.

  • Accomplish stuff? Look up how many seats the respective parties have. The democrats aren’t capable of accomplishing anything, but they might be able to prevent the Republicans from taking away a few things.

You gotta get out of the mindset that the Democrats are the government. They are not. They can push a little by shutting down the government, but a majority of Americans did vote for the Republicans to be in power. The Schumer doesn’t have a mandate to do anything, just a very narrow area where he can make a case that while Americans voted Republican they didn’t vote for what little healthcare they have to be taken away.

Also having the voters make the final decision on whether healthcare should be taken away wouldn’t be a bad thing.

It’s sad that Americans on both the left and right seem to hate democracy now.

  • Russia is desperate so started making noise about testing some missiles capable of delivering nuclear weapons. They like making noise about nukes in general because their conventional forces are failing at taking over Ukraine. Promoting fear of nuclear war is a card they play often, it’s easier to list the months Russia hasn’t made nuke threats in the last three years than the months they haven’t.

Trump is an idiot and didn’t understand the distinction between testing nuclear capable missiles and testing actual nuclear weapons. He doesn’t understand the Putin is weak now and the noise he’s making is a sign of that weakness and instead thinks it’s a sign of strength. Trump likes to copy Putin and is too stupid not to understand the distinction between a missile test and a nuclear weapons test, so started talking about doing nuclear weapons tests.

His administration is full of idiots that are only there because they are loyal to him and so they didn’t explain it to him. When a reporter explained the distinction between nuclear capable missile and actual nuclear weapons, since Trump is incapable of admitting he’s wrong about anything he insisted that Russia and China are testing nuclear weapons. But he’s the only one in the world that knows about it apparently.

Now it’s a weird situation where Trump’s sycophants probably know it’s stupid to do, but they aren’t going to question dear leader’s orders. But that doesn’t mean it will happen since they may be too incompetent to be able to do such a test. I’m not sure if they know it’s actually the Department of Energy that does nuclear testing not the Department of Defense War that do them. The facilities to do them have been repurposed so there would need to be some work done to make it possible even if they figure out which department does them.

There’s a significant likelihood that Trump gets distracted be something else before the administration can figure out how to do it. But if it continues to be a controversy then he’ll stick with it, since distracting from the Epstein files and various other corruption is the top priority.
