Smear campaign or not, their marketing and social media presence is aggressive and obnoxious on purpose. It seems to be purely focused on getting as many eyes on them as possible without actually considering what those eyes will think of them after getting the desired attention.

When I think of PETA I don’t think of an organization with strong moral and ethical principles, I think of an organization that made a bunch of tone-deaf video game parodies in the 2000s to try and get attention. Those are wounds that are entirely self-inflicted.

  • It’s less the developer team that did it and more the shareholders and executive team that has turned the product to complete trash.

It’s so dumb, even with the AI stuff I wouldn’t care that much if it was just a new thing the OS could do if the rest of the thing was actually stable. But they seem to be allergic to doing some actual house cleaning and instead keep bolting things on.

The fact that the explorer can regularly completely freeze up nowadays or flat out crash is actually insane. That should be at the top of the priority list before anything else gets worked on. But instead they decided: let’s add a new keyboard shortcut to open a really laggy copilot chat interface.

  • The NAND market is an effective monopoly that has been caught price fixing in the past. They desperately want to keep prices as high as they can so they tightly control supply to prevent having any excess product. This screws everyone over as soon as there’s a spike in demand that they failed to account for.

Instead of just keeping a consistent supply and allowing prices to drop from competition, we end up with a price rollercoaster that peaks every few years then crashes back down again. The severity is just higher than usual due to the higher demand from data centers.

The market desperately needs a new player that just consistently creates supply instead of playing stupid games, but the barrier to entry is too high.

  • I get why people are having trouble defending them but it’s really not cool that Mojang is pushing to enforce their own personal requirements on self-hosted servers. It’s one thing if it was an official server or hosted on realms or something, but this is just a bit too far in my opinion.

And given the recent pivots by tech companies in the US there’s very little reason to think this same set of rules couldn’t be applied to groups like trans people in the future.

It’s better to push back on this sort of stuff early, instead of waiting for it to personally impact you once it’s already built up momentum.

  • I used to see images like this explaining what an astigmatism was and just thought “well your windshield can cause this too so that’s probably what I’m seeing”

I genuinely don’t know why this was the conclusion I came to. Got an Rx for glasses a few years ago now and like most of my family I have a mild astigmatism.
