Imo, I thing they were in that they didn’t like big tech cause big tech didn’t like them. Many blocked Trump’s accounts after 6th of Jan. That being said, I also think it was naive to think Trump wouldn’t immediately change his mind if big tech changed their tune, pampered him, and made him feel like a little princess. I personally didn’t expect big tech to cozy up to Trump so hard and has been a big reason for me to remove big tech from my life where possible.

He praised the fact that Trump was the first president to want to bring down big tech. Fuck trump but we can all agree big tech is monopolised by a few monster companies atm. Unfortunately Trump is now their biggest fans after they sucked his dick but praising him for, what seemed at the time, to be moves to break them up is fair. I don’t think this tweet is bad but if there is a tweet of Andy Yen praising Trump’s current stance towards big tech or other social issues then I will change my mind.

As others have said, you will need to switch other counts individually. Even if tools existed, would you want a 3rd party to know all the accounts you have?

That being said, you don’t need to do it all immediately (as others also mentioned). What I did was change emails for my most important services and things I use often and made sure they were working (banks, gog, online shops etc.). Then I export all the emails I had in other accounts and imported into proton. I took that opportunity to sort things a bit but not really necessary. Then I set up forwarding from my other email accounts. I did this over my first few weeks with proton and now, if I happen to need an old account or notice emails are getting forwarded, I will switch those things. I can also see this in proton pass and if I notice an account has a sign in with an old email I’ll try change it to the new on before doing stuff with it.

If you take it easy and just focus on getting forwarding working and ensuring your most use stuff is switched over then it’s not too much of a ball ache

Their hardware will never match the prices of other brands spec for spec because thats not the only thing your getting. Your also getting repairability and materials sourced and manufactured as ethically as possible. That costs money and is where all other manufacturers skimp on.their phones definitely used to be too slow but since the 5 they are find for everyday use in my experience.

Imo since the fair phone 5 the speed of their devices has seemed adequate for most things outside of gaming. I recently got a fp6 and it’s snappier than I expected. You don’t need a flagship processor unless your gaming.

What company would you consider? I’m not aware of any other phone company that a really gives a damn about repairability, sustainability, and longevity of their products.

I don’t think they blindly follow the trend to remove the headphone jack. They said they did it cause it free up space, make it a bit cheaper, and make it a bit easier to engineer the device for their small team. I think those are fair arguments and better than apple just saying “it took courage” and do little else with it.

They have literally kept repairability the same throughout their phones (and now other devices). They have also kept replacements parts and sending out some software updates for their old phones too. Imo, they have yet to compromise on their core promise.

One day Bluetooth may not be backwards compatible but to my knowledge that has not happened for over 10 years. I have a Bluetooth speaker from 2014 that still connects to every Bluetooth device. Unfortunately the battery on that is shit now and I can’t replace it… So it will go to the landfill soon. If fairphone made that speaker then I could still use it. Playing down replaceable batteries in fp’s headphones is crazy. I would agree, however, that their headphones (especially the in ears) should be better so that people actually want to keep them.

The headphones they sell are actively the least disposable ones you can buy. That being said, it’s not the most sustainable way to listen to music. Imo, they removed it too make engineering the phone easier. If that means they can reduce the price from what it would have been and make the phone more repairable, then I’m happy for that compromise.

Have you owned a fairphone? From experience with my gf’s fp4, she has not had to keep sending it back in due to hardware issues. If it was such a big issue as you seem to think, they would have gone out of business with all the replacements they would need to do…

It does dilute it somewhat since it means there are more batteries and integrated circuits in stuff that don’t necessarily need it. I personally don’t think it’s a problem (as I have indicated in my other response) cause I just prefer Bluetooth headphones anyway but ultimately they aren’t the most environmentally conscious way to listen to music

No organisation is perfect but to use this one point as a reason they are evil is absurd. No one else seems to make a product that is anywhere near as sustainable, environmentally conscious and ethical. You gotta pick your battles and imo this is a battle for when the whole industry has taken up fairphone’s standards

This is fair but what if the AfD gains power in Germany or National rally gets in in France? Should we mitigate against these possibilities by not letting Germany or France in?

Obviously that shouldn’t happen but that question still looks over. Imo, whilst the UK and Canada aren’t part of the EU, they also aren’t the US. We should try bring them close and give them some access. Maybe in turn it means they are more likely to buy french or Germany weapons which would be good for everyone

To start with, China bad.

However, if they are willing to inject money into European companies and their influence on those companies is kept in check meaning they are never allowed to solely control those companies, then I think that’s fine. They make some money and EU companies get some investment that they hopefully use to be more competitive. Maybe there is information I don’t know but sounds like how Pirelli is managing it is good. In the case of Pirelli, going further would just be placating the US which we need to stop doing all the time in my view.

This should not be allowed for all companies (military, IT security, other sensitive stuff…) and I think the unbalanced competitive landscape in China itself makes things unfair too. But it’s not something the EU can practically change. We don’t have many carrots/sticks we can use to stop dumping their products and stealing IP.

We don’t want giants but we want companies that can compete with the giants across all markets. That way users have more choice, competition makes products better, and Europe can actually stand on its own two feet where required
