    Ironic to pick Voyager since it’s one of the more racist treks. You got one of the main antagonists, the Kazon(?), based on LA gangs. Every episode with Chakotay (they hired Iron Eyes Cody, famous fake native American Italian, to consult). The only thing keeping it from being old school trek is a wildly racist Irish episode.

      I mean it’s plausible they just didn’t know he was lying and went with the guy who played a native in 200 movies

      Reading about this guy i think the craziest thing is his wife actually was a native american, and an anthropologist and archaeologist. Imagine being her and marrying a Sicilian who straight up insists he’s a caricature of a native up until the day he died. Weird shit. Her wiki says her tombstone reads “Mrs. Iron Eyes Cody”

      Do you think she knew? Was she fine with it? Did she just put up with it? Was she studying him???

        I keep thinking about this and I know itd be problematic but Id watch a rom-com about a guy who goes in on a 60 year grift pretending to be native because he thinks it’d impress the girl, but she knows the entire time that he’s absolutely full of shit

      Maybe they just wanted to use the woman captain. I don’t hate Voyager but it isn’t great.
