I’m using the Hardwood Fence to build pens for animals, but they all seem to hop right over them unless I build the fence two high. Anyone else having this problem? What am I doing wrong?

I have never played Hytale but I’m going to make a random guess. In Minecraft a fence is actually 1.5 blocks. Since animals can only jump 1 block, this contains the animals. Now looking through the Hardwood Fence entry in the Hytale wiki, it doesn’t say anything about the height being more than one block. It seems like it’s just a normal one block and since animals are able to climb one block, they just hop out.

I am just pulling this out of my ass so it’s probably wrong.

No, I think you’re right. The weird thing is that in all the videos I’ve watched, the fencing looks to be only one block high and the animals appear to be staying put just fine. Maybe it’s a certain type of fencing that holds them in? I honestly don’t know…

One block should be enough at least for me. The animals haven’t escaped yet. If your using an additional structure inside the pen be sure to place it 2 blocks away from the fence. Otherwise the animals will escape by climbing onto the structure.

I’m not sure if this is still the case after the first update. But might be a possible cause 🤷‍♂️

The only other ‘structure’ I have is stone pillars for the corners, but they’re two blocks high. I wonder if it’s just my world is bugged or something. I’ve no doubts that everything will be sorted out in a future patch, though. For now, it’s just perplexing! Building a pen with double-stacked fencing makes it look more like a cage than a pen…heh. :D
