I’ve been taking care of this Screech for a while now and got some good pics of it.

When I was grabbing new food for everyone in the outdoor pens, the rehabber said it was ready to leave and asked if I wanted to release it at home!

I’m waiting for my girlfriend to get home and then we’ll let it go, I hope it likes the neighborhood!

So, you’re bound to come across it someday again?

    That must feel so good!

I would love to hear it whinnying in the background, months or years from now. I don’t expect to ever see it again after it goes free, but it would be very cool. 🥰

Gf has decided its name is Ash, as it’s gender neutral since we don’t know what it is, and it’s fitting with the tree theme of the first owl we got to hold at the National Aviary, Cedar, another red Screech.

Nah, i just came up with it.

You mean the recent Alien series, Alien:Earth? I watched the first 2 episodes and liked it pretty much.

Especially the new Alien species are very scary, squishy and blood thirsty.

A guy at work was telling me to check out the new series. I had heard of that either.

I searched Rook Ash in case it was a reference I didn’t get (there are many!) and in Alien: Romulus, they meet an android named Rook who resembles the android Ash from the original Alien movie. So Rook/Ash are the same model android from my quick skimming.

I found this long article on the combo of practical and vfx needed to make Rook, as the actor died in 2020 and they didn’t have any molds of him, everything was lost or destroyed.

It ate a mouse and took a nap after a bit, so it is a bit confused, but doing fine right now.

It should have some good exploring to do tonight. We’re surrounded by 2 ponds, a swamp, a semi wooded park, and a farm, so it’s going to have a nice variety of places to choose a new home.

I’m glad to get something for all this sweat equity I’ve put in this summer! 😅

I got 3 grey squirrels earlier this summer, and I want to snag some of the next batch of flying squirrels, those guys are fun.
