After being 6 goals up just after half time, Eintracht Frankfurt still conceded 4 goals in a truly wild ride of a game. I’m convinced that it would have ended in a 6:6 draw if the referee had allowed the match to continue for another ten minutes.

Eintracht Frankfurt won the Bundesliga match at Borussia Mönchengladbach 6:4 (5:0). Robin Koch (11., 47.), Ansgar Knauff (15.), Jonathan Burkardt (35.), Farès Chaïbi (39.) and Can Uzun (45.+1) scored for the SGE. Jens Castrop (72), Haris Tabaković (78), Yannik Engelhardt (83) and Grant-Leon Ranos (90.+9) scored for the Foals.
Borussia went into the game against Frankfurt with a heavy burden - without a win in eleven Bundesliga games and threatened to drop to the bottom of the table if they lost. It was Eugen Polanski’s first home game as the foals’ coach. Eintracht, on the other hand, wanted to get back on the road to success after two recent defeats in the league. Historically, Borussia-Park has been a good place for the SGE: nowhere else have the Hessians won more often (14 wins) and scored more away goals (72).
Frankfurt started with aggressive pressing and immediately took control. In the 11th minute, Robin Koch headed in a corner from Farès Chaïbi to take the lead. Ansgar Knauff increased the lead to 2:0 just four minutes later after Ritsu Dōan delivered a sharp free-kick into the penalty area. The hosts were unable to find a way past the lively visitors.
Jonathan Burkardt extended the lead in the 35th minute after a pass from Can Uzun. Polanski responded with an early double substitution, but Frankfurt remained unimpressed: Chaïbi made it 4-0 (39’) before Uzun scored a dream goal in stoppage time to make it 5-0 at half-time - a historic half-time score for Eintracht, who had never led by more after 45 minutes in Germany’s top division.
After the break, Frankfurt picked up exactly where they had left off: Koch scored his second goal to make it 6:0 (47’). The game seemed to be decided, but the hosts did not give up. Jens Castrop headed in a cross from Joe Scally to make it 1:6 (72’). Substitute Haris Tabaković reduced the deficit further with a header following a corner from Luca Netz (78’). Yannik Engelhardt made it 3:6 (83’) and substitute Grant-Leon Ranos put the finishing touches to a crazy game with his header to make it 4:6 (90.+9).
Despite the impressive comeback, it was not enough for the Foals to turn the game around. As a result, the Foals are in last place after matchday 5 - for the first time in almost ten years.
The Frankfurt defender Robin Koch put in an outstanding performance with two important goals. Koch not only scored the early 1:0 with his head, but also the 6:0 shortly after the break and was thus instrumental in Frankfurt’s success. With 356 Fantasy points, he was one of the game’s top players. In addition to his attacking qualities, Koch also impressed with his strength in tackles and his build-up play. Being voted player of the match with 42 per cent of the votes was a well-deserved reward for his brilliant performance at Borussia-Park.
What a match!
