They can call if whatever they (it seems Intel enjoys their model/generational branding being confusing), if the performance is shit, no one is going to care (they won’t lower margins).
You can give Intel shit for a lot of stuff but they had a damn good run from 2nd gen I-Series till 14th gen for generational naming. Model naming especially when it comes to the details… Yeah but that seems to be the industry standard and their main competitor AMD is so much worse when it comes to naming consistency.

Agreed regarding Intel’s previous naming scheme. It was relatively clear. Their current one on the other hand…
