When a powerful arcane relic known as “The Beacon” falls into dangerous hands, a group of fugitives and outcasts, bound by secrets and scars, must learn to work together to save the realm and stop reality itself from unraveling.
They got Tim McGraw??? What an interesting choice.
Both this and Vox Machina seem to be vibrating on a different emotional frequency than I exist on. Nothing works; the humor isn’t funny, the action is dull, the melodrama is tedious and the charisma is utterly non-existent. The ingredients are all there but, for some reason, it just doesn’t work and it’s so frustrating that I can’t explain why. I keep watching, waiting for this all to eventually click, but it never does.
And I don’t like feeling this way. I genuinely want to be able to point at something specific that the showrunners are doing and be able to say “that, stop that” or “do this instead” but I can’t put my finger on it. It drives me crazy.
I’m curious. I like the idea of Critical Role, but I’m not gonna sit there and watch people play D&D. I love the fact that CR is a bunch of anime voice actors (Matt Mercer, Travis Willingham, and Laura Bailey specifically) and their theater-nerd friends, but it’s not something I wanna watch. (I don’t do podcasts, either.)
So the idea of a Mighty Nein cartoon (anime?) appeals to me. I expect it’ll be some dumb fun, kind of like the recent D&D movie, Honor Among Thieves.
