Ah another Q4 layoff season is here!
Layoffs.fyi, a website tracking tech job cuts, estimated that about 98,000 jobs have been lost so far this year among 216 companies.
That seems shockingly low. Maybe all the headlines have been raising the expectations that it was much higher.
That’s still 5% of the working age population (212,166,000 people) laid off just this year alone. Not counting the 152,000 last year from the same site and all the other companies not tracked.
You’re off by a couple decimal places. 5% of 212 million is 10.6 million.
98,000 is 0.05% of 212 million.
I could have sworn I had my coffee today…
