To answer your question, yes they’ve always been this brainwashed. The gusanos and chuds are doing their victory lap right now and are gonna be the loudest online and they have the full backing of the media.
They’re also unchallenged because almost everyone believes the line “Maduro was an evil dictator” without question, so celebrating seems like a normal thing to do. Saying that it’s no reason for celebrating just turns you into a party pooper and an enemy of democracy.
If you present concern or anything that goes against this simple narrative you have to explain yourself endlessly and present evidence. You’re going to get so much pushback and so little support that it’s demoralizing.
Liberals believe deeply in tokenization when it confirms their own chauvinism. They revel in any opportunity to claim “X identity supports it” as a supposed gotcha to “leftists” criticizing their support of anti-black violence, war crimes, sanctions, famine, genocide. It is a beloved shield, a thought-terminating cliche, that means they don’t have to actually address the criticism or dissonance.
Which is why I find it valuable to address it directly. You can reach at least a stalemate by doing your own “look at these people with the same identity saying the opposite”, which can let you again demand attention for the criticism. Or you can directly call them out on their, inevitably racist, tokenization.
