I should not have opened it on work time. Youtube has got my number for sure.

Technology@lemmy.world•Why Signal’s post-quantum makeover is an amazing engineering achievement
31·4 days agoIt’s not completely out yet. That was likely AWS being down.
Also, the new quantum protected message encryption headers are about 2kb. If that’s causing issues with your internet, you may want to consider looking at new internet.
we always use this laptop for our taxes, so TurboTax. Disk-wise
Independent of your experiements with Linux, it may be a good idea to switch away from turbotax. They’ve been lobbying to make filing taxes harder for the past 20 years.
More relevant to the Linux discussion at hand, they’re locked into a specific operating system, whereas the alternatives are much more modern and work just fine in a regular web browser. I’ve had good success across three states with freetaxusa, personally.
My intestine. Sure, it’d be nice to not have to worry about bad food, but the real upgrade would be the immune system. More than half of all the body’s cells that make antibodies are found in the wall of the intestine, which means I’d actually be getting a major upgrade to my ability to handle diseases too.

Lmao I hadn’t even noticed, but yes, definitely that.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Could the original WWII Willys Jeep be built and sold today?
2·8 days agoThe slate truck has been advertising itself as open source; ironically partially funded by Elon, actually.
There’s also been a couple people saying they’d make one for the past several years, if my internet searches are a thing to go by.
This guy just started a company for managing an open source truck project, and he seems pretty serious about it. He just started though, so we aren’t likely to see anything actually come of it for several years. https://mutiny.fm/ https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=G-QgQitWNLY
There’s also the tabby evo, which is for sale right now, but I’m not so sure I’d call that a car so much as a gokart that may or may not be street legal. https://www.openmotors.co/product/tabbyevo/
Nah. Obituaries are usually reserved for immediate family members. You don’t get that status until you’ve commited to marriage.

Rant@lemmy.sdf.org•For crying in the sink, stop posting imgur links
10·8 days agoImgur blocks my VPN. It’s one of the reasons I hate them. I’m not going to poke a hole in my network just to see what your ass was too lazy to actually post to your instance.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Could the original WWII Willys Jeep be built and sold today?
5·9 days agoYes. Because it is. https://www.hotcars.com/this-country-is-still-producing-ww2-willys-jeep-parts/
Absolutely not in the states though. Whatever came after passing safety regulations wouldn’t be a Willy’s Jeep.
It costs money for them to attempt to sort between honest/upfront advertising and the scummy kind.
I have had no issues running beatsaber on my 7900xt/5800x3d. I assume you don’t mean anything else either. /s
to be honest, i have had nearly no issues running anything at all. Only bf6 has been a notable failure for me so far.

Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Any way to defeat HDCP for Chromecast recording?
5·14 days agoYou kinda have to play the lottery with the HDMI cards; some of the can strip it, some of them can’t. And it looks like some of them strip it and get detected.
They can’t advertise that as a feature either, so it’s a bit of a crapshoot. It may be worth finding the latest reddit post about it to see if anyone has a specific model that was working in the past year.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•I am attempting to get into Selfhosting after a shockingly frightening experience, but I am very lost.
16·15 days agoHonestly? Don’t do the whole switch, or even a big switch from a few services to another.
Start small. Very small. Try doing just one service you rely on, like your images or music. Immich just announced their first stable release. I use navidrome for my music. Make sure to test these on a copy of your data, not your actual data.
Once you’ve got one service working as you want it to do, then you can try your hand at another service. This way, you don’t get stuck trying to do everything all at once.
It may be worth considering how much (if any) you want to spend at the start, too. That’ll inform your next immediate task; setting up basic backups for your data. A spare drive is a good start, but it may be worth keeping another one at your parents house, or similar.
For what it’s worth, the ID check means this makes it harder to buy ammo than it would be from a store with a person in it.
There’s also a guy 60km away across lake Ontario that’s connecting to my balcony nod
That is really cool. Does it just tell you how far away a connection is from?

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•The demise of Flash didn't bring any big HTML5/JS equivalent for watching animations; fast internet and better video compression made those types of animations become raster videos as well
33·17 days agoWe wish the security issues were what killed flash, but it had more than twenty years of security issues failing to kill flash. Flash died because it was replaced by newer technology.
