Recently I started building some space marines and wanted to take some cultural and visual inspiration from Aztec/Mexica/Nahuatl nations (especially the Jaguar and Eagle knights) for their paint scheme and kitbashes. I found some really well made .stl’s for chain/power macuahuitls and the like

Though I always end up concerned about how to do this stuff in a cool, not disrespectful way (as much as can be done for a scifi tactics game I’m playing at home I suppose). Trying to avoid some of GW’s mistakes

Got into Project Silverfish recently, the seemingly based gay furry STALKER-like. Low budget, single-dev afaik, but a lot of fun with very solid gunplay and exploration. Surprisingly creepy and atmospheric too.

Love that the secretly bourgeois-funded “Insurrectionist” faction are described as wearing “little fashy armbands”, and the undead cyborg-cops are called “dead pigs”.

Sounds like they took the criticism about the first game’s “Kurosawa Mode” and redid it for the second. When it’s active the mode has new music, redubbed lines with more “authentic” sounding audio quality, the B&W effect isn’t just a simple filter anymore. Looks kinda dope honestly

I’ll admit I find Yakub jokes as a concept kind of funny, but it’s in that same category where I’m not cool with non-black people making Hotep jokes either.

I think you were being overly uncharitable in assuming most of the opinion was influenced by chud talking points. My opinion is one I have formed over reading many works of fiction - I cast no judgment on people who enjoy the work, and I don’t even anticipate that the angle that I find uncomfortable was intended, I said as much many times.

I found it too reminiscent of nearly ubiquitous tropes that, whether or not you agree the author intended it, put me off the work. It literally cannot be argued, it’s my reaction that is tainted by the prevailing currents of popular media

I’m glad you enjoy it! I actually find the demon elements of the show a much less compelling concept than other themes it runs with. I get the angle you’re talking about, with demons (as with historical representations of vampires etc) representing the unfeeling, murderous and deceptive force that at its core has no care for life or humanity. I actually liked how the theme can be applied in other works, like Sinners, representing the faceless assimilation that will play whatever advantage it has to get its claws into the colonized people

The rhetoric around it in Frieren just hews a little too close to actual excuses for heinous acts that it feels gross to me.

It fucking seems like it! You’re allowed to like your elf show goddamn, I’m trying to explain why people have issue with it! I love some slop that has easy to recognize problematic shit, I’m just tired of this particular trope - whether or not the author of Frieren is all in on xenophobic othering or not is immaterial to me. Or at least, it is secondary.

That’s a different argument though - they can be described as psychopathic and lacking empathy, sure, but there are humans who lack empathy, and they’re still people. The demons clearly have logical thought processes but have very different goals & priorities that are orthogonal to humans’. It all seems very “handwavy” and inconsistent to me, and if that’s the creator’s 5d chess maneuvers to create a discussion then I suppose I’m not on their level lol.
