Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Trump is the new 9/11 - in a decade, we will be looking back with nostalgia to a world before international rules and standards were still valid
654·6 days agoIt’s not like international law really meant anything before Trump. It has been broken many times before with no real consequences, also by the US. The UN really doesn’t have the power to enforce anything.
Because my parents aren’t.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•I’m not saying that I agree with right- or center-wing views, and I do condemn transphobia. However, do you think there should be a distinction between critiquing beliefs of transgender people and the
121·22 days agoI have tried to get my point across before, but was labeled a transphobe. I have no issue with trans people and wish them all the best in their pursuit of happiness. I understand the issue they face: Society put them in one of two gender categories, and they don’t feel that’s where they belong. That’s a valid issue in my eyes.
I just don’t really see the current approach fixing this. Its like we saw that there was an issue with racism, but instead of abolishing it, we added more categories like “race-fluid”.
In my eyes, the root issue is the concept of gender identities, and how big a role they play in our day to day lifes. Why does the way people address me (sir/madam, he/she) depend on my gender identity? Why does every form I fill out ask for my gender identity? Why are so many things separated by gender?
I’d like to see a post-gender society, where we don’t need pronouns. Where there is no concept of gender identity, because everyone is just themselves.
Instead of staying inside the box, adding classification after classification, I think we should leave the box and stop assigning a gender identity to every one of us.
I think there is probably a difference here between small companies where there is one owner that knows all their employees and corparations with thousands of employees and anonymous shareholders.

15·26 days agoYou are probably referring to the recent statements of Masoud Pezeshkian.
I consider them to be mostly political rhetoric, nothing has really changed. Iran has been in a hybrid war with NATO and Israel pretty much since the islamic revolution. This conflict does flare up every now and then, for example in June of this year, or at the beginning of 2020. So far though, it never turned into a total war, and I don’t see why it would be different this time.
I’m annoyed by the notion that our bodies somehow need animal protein to build muscles. What we need is a specific mix of amino acids. Animal proteins generally provide a similar mix, but that just means that eating meat is the easy route. It is definitely possible to mix plant proteins to provide our bodies with everything they need (at least in terms of proteins).
And honestly, I’m just tired of animal suffering, man.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•I cannot understand what dose of vitamin D I should take
4·28 days agoIt is probably best to listen to your doctor.
Personally, I supplement 25 µg K2 and 20 µg D3 (800 IU), because I am vegan.
2,000 IU seems excessive to me, and I wouldn’t be surprised if you’re overdosing with 8,000. I’m not a doctor tho, so idk.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How much are you willing to inconvenience yourself to save money?
67·1 month agoI usually take my hourly wage and compare it to the inconvenience. For example, if that inconvenience takes about an hour of my life, but saves me more than my hourly wage, I take it. There are exceptions of course, for example if I am low on money.
Aber: you do you, boo. Ist jetzt nicht so als wär eine Phrase in meinen Augen besser/schlechter als die andere.

movies@piefed.social•What's a lesser known Christmas movie worth a watch?
2·1 month ago“Die Weihnachtsgans Auguste” by Günter Rätz. I guess one can understand most of it without speaking German.
At least as I read it, “touching grass” doesn’t mean “pretend everything is fine”, but instead “get away from the screen. Stop digging deeper and deeper into news feeds, online arguments and ‘theory’. Go outside, live in the real world and do something.”
That can also mean fully dedicating yourself to helping those in need and fighting for a more just world.

Maybe you talk fast, quiet or otherwise difficult to understand?
Or maybe the other person was focusing on something else when you started talking to them?
A lot of stuff gets lost in verbal communication, repitition is part of it. That’s perfectly normal, and it’s probably best to not immediately antagonize someone because of it.
