PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Study finds 72% of Developers View Steam as Monopoly [from the overall pool, 75% of respondents were senior managers]English
2·2 days agoNailed it, this is an ad for their company, that’s all the poll is, and of course it backs up the purpose of the company, almost like they set out from the beginning to create a poll with the results they wanted. Once they did that, they fired up their email (or hired a PR company) and spammed every news outlet they could to get them to cover. Steamdeckhq was dumb enough to take the bait, literally advertising this company for free, and OP continued that idiocy by posting here.

Games@sh.itjust.works•Rockstar Games fires over 30 employees, all were part of pro-union Discord group, "one of the most blatant and ruthless acts of union busting in the history of the games industry"English
51·7 days agoSchreier couldn’t be bothered to list what the employees positions were. Gonna take a wild guess they weren’t devs. Even better, the union Discord clearly has a leak. Now that’s how you protect workers, amiright, unless these employees were dumb enough to spread the word at work

DeGoogle Yourself@lemmy.ml•I started my deGoogling journey by using an E Ink phone devoid of GApps, and I couldn't be more pleased
31·9 days agoNope, just a personal account of using the phone for the last couple months. Take notice there is zero advertising on the site, no affiliation whatsoever, it’s completely unmonetized, created for readers not bots or corporations. I literally got the phone to deGoogle, so it seemed appropriate to the sub to me.

1·10 days agoShould be fine, grab the apk from the site or get it from F-Droid. You’ll have to install a browser or F-Droid first, but the Mudita Center app makes this trivial to get the APK on the device for install.

Ereader@lemmy.ml•If you're interested in RLCD as an E Ink alternative, there's a crazy discount running right now for this RCLD ePaper Android tablet
1·10 days agoYes, Playdate is RLCD tech. The other key feature is that they are reflective, like an OG Game Boy. What’s nice about the tablet on sale is that it offers frontlighting, so you aren’t completely dependent on the reflective screen.

Games@sh.itjust.works•When was the last time you actually laughed while playing a game?English
21·12 days agoEvery once in a while, I get matched with competent players in Rocket League, and something magical happens that makes me grind. Feels rarer and rarer these days, but it still happens, which is why I still play.

Retro Handhelds@sh.itjust.works•Review: Atari Gamestation Go - A Tour Of Atari's Legacy With One Too Many Bumps In The RoadEnglish
2·22 days agoWait a sec, you mean to tell me a company wearing the Atari logo as a skin suit, one that will lend its name to any manufacturer looking to sell cheapo handhelds, didn’t wind up making a killer handheld. I’m shocked. Everyone is clambering to spend money to play ancient games that look like shit right?

Mechanical Keyboards@lemmy.ml•Keebuilder is the mechanical keyboard cataloging and sharing app I've been waiting for
1·25 days agoI dunno, I’m posting my boards one a week to social media like Twitter and Reddit, for a year. 52 boards, and that’s not even the entire collection. I’m putting these boards into Keebuilder, as a way to track my collection while adding in all the nice photos I’m taking for the social posts. There’s certainly no shortage of using my boards when posting to social media, but I do see your point that Keebuilder is a phone app and you don’t use a keyboard to fill in its information.
I guess for me my boards are getting use no matter what, I’m fine with using my phone to catalog the collection, my boards aren’t complaining they’re getting ignored.

RetroGaming@lemmy.world•Serious Sam 2 was just updated after 20 years in celebration of its anniversaryEnglish
8·26 days agoIt really has stood the test of time. It’s a great shooter
And they don’t want to do anything for themselves. It’s why AI is gaining ground, everyone is too lazy to do anything for themselves, and that includes finding good games and hacking their own roms.
It’s still working, set myself up the other day. You have to use a specific version of the app, an older one, and turn off Internet when installing so you can toggle the auto update off. There is a fork of Alfs code, but I just used the regular one and it was fine.

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Borderlands 4's latest patch triggers a flurry of performance complaints, but Gearbox says new stuttering problems 'should resolve over time as the shaders continue to compile'English
11·1 month agoUh, what does BL4 have to do with anything? You said it’s “not true” the game has issues compiling shaders, the video I linked that you admit showcases blatant stuttering issues proves it does.

Games@sh.itjust.works•The Video-Game Industry Has a Problem: There Are Too Many Games | Jason SchreierEnglish
2·1 month agoI didn’t say there aren’t any good games. I said I wish there were too many
Are there too many quirky games like Jumping Flash and Katamari. Nope
Are there too many games like Gran Tourismo that aren’t pay to win slop. Nope, and that sadly includes Gran Tourismo. As a matter of fact there are hardly any quality racing games at all
Are there too many games like Dead or Alive/Soulcalibur? Big ol nope
Are there too many games like the OG Jak and Daxter? Nope
Are there too many games like Metal Gear Solid? Hard no
Are there too many games like Advance Wars? Nope
Are there too many games like MDK? No no and no
Are there too many games like Fallout 3? No
Are there too many games like Portal? No
Are there too many games like Mass Effect? Nope
Are there too many games like Wow? Nope, just a tiny selection of clones
Are there too many games like Final Fantasy with turn-based combat? Nope, not even Final Fantasy, and the majority of good turn-based JRPGs are remakes
I could easily go on. However, the point is made.
So, as I was saying, I wish there were too many good games. Sadly, the majority is middle-of-the-road indies recycling and combining played-out genres, and AAA horseshit. And that’s why they aren’t selling or gaining traction; people don’t want them. That isn’t a problem of too many games; it’s an industry problem of pushing out too much junk. If they wanna make more sales, they should get back to making good games that aren’t a pale imitation of better games from decades past.
