Granted, with all the planned obsolescence happening, you could also argue that engineers “knew” what they were doing.

What I did use were the magazines you could find at most stores at the time. Those would have walkthroughs and guides for most of the games available at the time.

A lot of users will recommend different services to replace YouTube. In my opinion, the best thing you can do is use GrayJay.

You’ll be able to use any of the services (PeerTube, Odysee, Nebula, YouTube, Twitch, Kick, Rumble, Dailymotion, Bitchute, etc.).

Then all you have to do is follow those that you usually do, but you’ll be able to find them on any alternative service (if they use them).

As a Star Citizen player, I’m all for other games stepping up with some real competition.

I can’t wait to hop back in to No Mans Sky and check out this update.

That being said, this isn’t an update that has implemented all of what makes Star Citizen stand out. We still don’t have hundreds of players able to congregate on a single ship. AI pathing/tactics in NMS is very basic. We don’t have cities/interiors on the scale that Star Citizen has. A single planet doesn’t have much of a variance to their biomes (no mixes of tundra/desert, forest, high altitude, low altitude, wetland etc.). We’re mostly limited to just Cave, Surface, and Underwater biomes.

I’m hoping that we start to see more complex planets with the work being done on Light No Fire. I’m definitely looking forward to future updates on this game.

This game was a lot of fun for the demo they released a short time ago (servers aren’t up anymore).

For anyone with one of these GE fridges. If you read the fine print in the owner’s manual, they will send you a bypass plug for free (just once) if you call and ask for one. You will need to provide the serial number of the fridge.

The best way to handle transitioning from YouTube is to use GrayJay. Follow creators that you like and when any of them have a platform on a different service, subscribe to them there.

Besides YouTube, it supports any PeerTube instance, Patreon, Twitch, Nebula, Odysee, Rumble, Dailymotion, Ted Talks, etc.

I joined the fediverse when Reddit made their API changes.

For me, personally, I found Kbin/Mbin to be a sort of hybrid between Twitter and Reddit, and I wasn’t a fan of the layout. Lemmy felt a lot more like the Reddit-like experience I was looking for.

However, PieFed then came along and it feels like Reddit, but has features that cater to the Fediverse much better than Lemmy does (such as being able to combine communities into feeds, crosspost handling,), as well as other features that are great (polls, spoiler blur for image posts, etc.).

I don’t remember the exact search, but it had something to do with Star Citizen. A link to a post from that Lemmy.world community was fairly high on a DuckDuckGo search result.

Along with a few other users, I’ve posted some useful links and info in the community over there. It looks like that work is starting to pay off.

I find it useful to sign up for multiple accounts and then segregate those into browsing/posting habits for different categories. One for gaming (or other relaxed communities), one for science & tech, one for politics that I only occasionally dip into, one that’s a voting only account, etc.

At the very least, you can take a break from communities that can easily be more toxic, whenever you want. If downvotes bother you, I would also suggest signing up with a fediverse instance that disables downvotes.

I’ve actually started to see some results from Lemmy.world in DuckDuckGo search results.

I’ve tested PieFed out for a bit, and I like what they have going on. It uses ActivityPub, just like Mastadon or Lemmy. It’s mostly similar to Lemmy, but it has some additional features that are awesome:

• Feeds - In PieFed you can combine multiple communities into a single feed (makes it so much easier to browse through all of the different c/technology posts from Lemmy.world, lemmy.zip, Beehaw, programming.dev, etc.).
• Crosspost View - If a post has been crossposted, scrolling through the comments is organized into sections from each community that the post was crossposted into.
• Delayed posting - Set a future time for when you want your post/comment to be posted.
• Post tagging - Ability to tag a post as a spoiler, discussion, question/answered etc.
• Spoiler tags on a post blur out images.
• User tagging - Public tags for anyone to see.
