Autism@lemmy.world•Do you think that it may be more uncomfortable for autistic people to have the flu as the autistic brain usually is incapable of just ignoring stimulus like phlegm in your throat?
10·19 days agoCough drops / lozenges / hard candy. The menthol and medicine doesn’t help me much, but the constant production of saliva for lubrication and consistent reason to swallow reduces the accumulation of phlem and therefore reduces the coughing.

You’ve never gotten into a romantic knife fight with your beloved? Way more exciting than wrestling.

Art@lemmy.dbzer0.com•This is an unfinished painting of a Spanish noblewoman from 1775. Little is known about the mysterious woman, unknown why the artist painting her abandoned it. It’s unintentionally proto-surrealist.

I don’t have all my stuff plugged in right now, but when I did I used an AV switch or an AV receiver. For Dreamcast and Xbox, I recommend using VGA video if you can swing it, significantly improved video quality. But it’s getting difficult to find screens that take it as an input anymore.

retrocomputing@lemmy.sdf.org•They Made a Zip Drive.. for your TV?!
6·2 months agoZip and Jazz drives had some serious data stability issues that would have sunk them anyway. I used them for school work and needed to have duplicates because it was a question of when the disk would fail, not if.
I loved mine! Did exactly what I bought it for, emulation on my TV and playing media from my server. Replaced it with a Shield eventually, but don’t regret backing it on Kickstarter.

Work Reform@lemmy.world•Scientists have been studying remote work for four years and have reached a very clear conclusion: “Working from home makes us thrive”
5·3 months agoI had the same assumption about myself before 2020. Turns out I’m way less distracted at home because I control the things that would distract me. So I’m much more productive. Was actually a huge surprise to me.
I use “good luck with that,” when I’ve been asked advice on a topic I’m knowledgeable in and they decide to go against my advice. It’s not “fuck you,” but it is “I told you so” in advance.

Patient Gamers@sh.itjust.works•They say word-of-mouth marketing is the most effective form of marketing. What games did you (not) enjoy that came well-recommended by friends to you, and why did they recommend it to you?
221·3 months agoHalf Life 2. Wasn’t a big fan of the first one, but the second had tons of hype, so I gave it a shot. The physics stuff was cool, but the gameplay, story and characters were boring and flat. And the “revolutionary” storytelling method of locking you in a box to talk at you rather than making a proper cutscene still sucks.

12·3 months agoNon-adhder here. Not constant conversations, no. And not unbidden. I do have conversations in my head, and sometimes they provide answers that weren’t readily available to my conscious mind. But I often have “silence” in my mind. When I’m tired enough, that’s “no noticeable activity” or “just the steps required to do whatever the immediate activity.” Other times it’s a song or a “movie” or plans for what I’m doing later.

GIMP@lemmy.world•[HELP] How can I seamlessly blend 3 images together with the connecting images share elements
3·3 months agoDo you have an example of what you want from the seamless blend? Easiest would be to do some careful masking of some elements so they break the frames of your layout - buildings from the village spilling up into the other two images, for example.
A harder way would be to design the images so that one element could become another - the magic rock sharing a silhouette with a mountain behind the village, and transitioning from “magic rock” color and texture to “wooded mountain” texture. Probably easier to do that if you’re creating it from scratch - drawing, CG or doing your own photography, and will require even more careful masking if you go for it.

News@lemmy.world•Newsom says California to draw congressional maps to 'END TRUMP PRESIDENCY'
29·5 months agoCalifornia has an indepenent committee that draws the maps. This action will require a statewide vote to temporarily override that committee’s maps for this purpose. I don’t think the vote would have succeeded before Trump won. Remains to be seen if the vote will succeed now.
