I would prefer not seeing this kind of phrasing here. It looks like hanrahan had misunderstood something, was writing in good faith, and is very much of the same opinions as you are.

Of course “Fuck Eurpeans” was not the most tactful phrasing either, but it’s still not directly directed towards an individual person, unlike “fuck you”. (And of course: If there’s an actual pro-Russian monster in the conversation, feel free to use bad words of them!)

Of course all in all, it’s good to see two people who both are as very vehemently on Ukraine’s side as both of youse seem to be!

There’s the thing known as white passport, officially “Certificate of identity” or semi-officially “Alien’s passport”. That’s a document that looks just like a passport of a country but has a white cover instead of red, black, green or blue. It means that the country that has issued the white passport proves that the person is who they say they are, and it also tends to mean that that person has a right to reside in that country. It’s much more difficult to travel abroad with a white passport than with an actual passport, but it gets you started. Then, after living somewhere long enough, you can get a new citizenship and get on with your life at last.

One thing that can be difficult is that to get some other citizenship, many countries require you to get rid of our previous ones first. For example in the Russia you can get rid of your citizenship only by travelling to the Russia and doing all the paperwork there. Which takes about two months. During which time they’ll send you to the front and you’ll die. It depends on the mood of the worker whether you can get a white passport in such a case or not.

You’re not stateless if you are a citizen of a country. The country you are a citizen of refusing to fulfill its duties doesn’t make you stateless yet.

Reading these news about how LNG goes up or down, it’s good to keep in mind that pre-2022, almost no LNG was exported from the Russia at all.

Gas sold by the Russia was almost exclusively sold through pipes, and that is in gas form, not liquid.

The amount of LNG has grown in comparison to the almost nothing at all that was sold pre-2022, but the amount of LNG now being bought from the Russia is only a small fraction of what we bought through the gas pipe network before 2022.

Of course, we still must end buying any gas at all from the Russia, but it’s important to understand that we do already have very effective sanctions against Russian gas exports! This “Russian LNG is being bought several times more than in 2021!” is a very misleading thing.

…are you sure that’s a western urge? I don’t really think that’s how it goes in Finland, Spain, Sweden or Germany.
People would not react the way you see here, but that’s because of the way the message is conveyed, not because of the message itself.

Then do you believe it’s likely that any large share of people would really go live in caves as you suggest? Where would we even find that many caves, or any other similar lodging, for such a number of people?

Do you understand that many people interpret your words as “you shouldn’t do anything, because you cannot reach perfection anyway?”

Of course the minimizing of others’ exploitation is something to strive for, so you helping implant such a mindset is very damaging.

To be fair, most of Russian dissidents are angry about how the war is fought.

They would have wanted Ukraine to be taken over in a way that doesn’t spill Russians’ blood.

There are people in the Russia that are really against the whole war and want to see all of Ukraine’s territory liberated, but those are not many! I would estimate their number is somewhere between 100 and a bit over 1000 individuals. Among 140 million.

A good way to figure this is asking “who does Crimea belong to?”
Everyone who is really a dissident will say “Ukraine”, because in reality the case is crystal clear. Everybody who moved there knew it’s not part of the Russia in the same manner as other regions where the white-blue-red flag is waved. And yet they elected to move there. It’s a sad thing they’ll need to move away, yes, but they knew or at least had the responsibility to know what they are doing. And this is what Russian dissidents (both of them…) think.
But almost all “dissidents” will say “it’s complicated” or something similar. That’s how you know a person protesting against how the war is done.

And let me say: it is statistically extremely unlikely that the deported ones were among those 0,00071 % of the Russia’s population that are real dissidents.

Please elaborate why.

I worked in mid-level management for some time, and among the most important skills was the ability to recognize what is good enough.

If you have seven courses of action available, of which 3 are good, don’t spend time choosing the optimal one. If it is obvious right away, then good, go for that. But otherwise just make a decision. I often literally tossed a coin. I’ve got thousand things going on in my thoughts at once, and it makes no sense to disrupt them by trying to make something maybe 2% more optimal.

Just make a random pick and then deal with what comes. It’s really a good way to do stuff, regardless of whether you’re “successful” or not.

This is good for China.

They haven’t been able to attack Taiwan because their only shipping way towards west goes through the straits of Malacca, and if those are blocked, China is in deep trouble.

This new route removes much of that danger. Now Taiwan can be attacked much more safely.

The indifference of us Europeans is beautiful.

Oletin, että on. Mutta näemmä ei, vaan Mockavan ajat on puolalaisessa datassa näemmä ilmoitettu Puolan ajassa eikä paikallisessa. Hm, pitää hilailla aikatauluja toiseen uskoon sitten! Hyvä huomio kyllä!

Mä ajattelin noi Mockavassa vaihtavat yhdensuuntaisiksi matkustajiksi, joille tuo yhteys sattuu tarjoamaan kätevimmän reitin Keski-Eurooppaan/-sta, ja siellä käymisen ensisijaisesti osoitukseksi lehdistölle siitä, että tällainen linja olisi toimiva. Pääosa matkustajista olisi vain Liettuaan asti meneviä. Siksi mä ohjasin tuon reittiehdotuksen koukkaamaan Vilnan kautta.
