Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is more important to you, working hard for a better position or work/life balance?English
8·2 days agoThe most important thing I have learned is working hard when you see directly benefits. Working hard on your own school work or education is a great lesson because it’s all tied to you. Use that same work ethic at a large company you burn yourself for nothing. Own your own business where additional work directly benefits you is a great idea.

30·2 days agoOf course they are targeting wonderful Hmong community here in the Twin Cities. Most of which are US citizens all of which are here because they ran from Vietnam and Laos after supporting the US in the Vietnam war. Disgusting.

rpg@ttrpg.network•Are there any RPGs set in a Everdell/Root kind of setting?English
2·3 days agoHumblewood is a dnd 5e setting based on talking animals. It would be classic DND so dungeoning delving and monster fighting are sort of baked in
My locations are like vague outlines until people express interest until going there. Then the details emerge.

18·4 days agoOne of my favorite lessons from my favorite sex and relationship podcasts hosts (Dan Savage) is his advice about short term relationships being a successful relationship if done correctly. The same ideas as discussed here but more general. If not the only “successful” relations ends with someone in a coffin

8·5 days agoI’ve been looking at the weather here and saying the same thing. We have been above freezing for weeks and just getting back to normal cold of 0. Would love to see these ICE agents be sent out in the -40s we get in mid Jan.
What I really want is to get the city to not plow around ICE locations. Plow in ICE

6·6 days agoGreat advice. I can’t wait to see these racist ICE fucks up continue to stand in the cold as we are getting back to seasonal appropriate weather. It’s been above freezing for the last few weeks and we’re getting back to the typical 0s again.

rpg@ttrpg.network•Mixing Fantastic Creatures from different CulturesEnglish
2·6 days agoDnd works best when its a mix of diverse sources and I personally love to mix the consistency of my sources. This means sometimes (rarely) I have a location or dungeon that draws from a single real world source of inspiration. In my long running campaign that’s a pyramid and ties quests that it almost purely inspired by mesoamerican /aztec underworld myth.
But more often I mix. They attended a bridgerton / pride and prejudice inspired ball that had a kitsune inspired fey who was named after a Flight of the Concords song. It’s fun to mix and match

3·7 days agoSounds like a great party to do an Acq Inc campaign. They play as their own business and can have evil corporations as enemies. It’s great fun
I love the cross posting feature. It’s helpful to spread the love
To my fair for DnD does imply that all player characters are special and that’s why they can do what they do. Especially when the magical classes. All priests can say the words but only those blessed will manifest the clerical / druidic magics. They are the special ones but still have to learn to power up.
Also it’s not as binary in Dnd. There’s a reason not every NPC is high level regardless of age. Most settings have implied that at a certain point a spellcaster maxes out the spells they can do. All those casters who can do 1st level spells only some are implied to be still learning but others are just as good as they can be.
So there’s isn’t one class that is special but all of them
One thing I love about the old DnD books is how oddly specific they can be. There’s pages about how to draw correct summoning and binding circles for various beings.

She should leave her label. Slut pop was great. Slut Pop Miami felt like a cheap knockoff forced by a suit.
