  • In my experience, most games that offer support for both are better with KB/M.

The KB/M vs Controller betterness ratio of a particular game tends to also scale up with the amount of controls required to play the game.

If you want a game that feels almost as good on the controller, find a simpler game with fewer controls.

As far as game recommendations: the wife and I have more hours into Stardew Valley than I’ll publicly admit, and other games we enjoy that work well with controllers are Luma Island, Dinkum, and Plate Up.

A side note: If you’re chasing the magic that is Stardew Valley, you aren’t going to find it elsewhere. Be open to a different kind of magic in these other games and you won’t be disappointed that it doesn’t hit like Stardew.

  • I understand that the playbook focuses around a strategy that involves throwing as many wacky things at us dumdums as possible so that we lose focus, become jaded, and spread resources so thin that we can’t fully act against any single outrageous thing…

…but come on people. Is this what it takes to be truly evil? Because it sounds exhausting.

So, where are we now? We’ve gone from chunking spaghetti to distract from the files to reverse Uno using the files to distract from gaining full control of the military so that it would no longer matter what’s in the files?

  • +1 for Davinci replacing Premier (and its built-in Fairlight replacing Audition, for that matter).

However, it’s kind of weird that they say GIMP is a reasonable alternative to Photoshop, but RawTherapee isn’t for Lightroom.

And there is no mention of Illustrator.

The reason for that is, for those that use Illustrator as a part of their professional workflow, there is no viable alternative. There is software that can do some tasks the same, some tasks differently but at the same speed, some tasks the differently but take longer to achieve, and some tasks not at all. It’s those last two that make switching unviable for folks that use it as one of their primary tools for paying the bills

Again, I know it wasn’t mentioned in the article, I just thought it was strangely left out when just as poor alternatives to Photoshop were cited.

To be clear, I hate adobe. I hate windows (and apple). I’ve been trying to break completely free since 2011. I do revisit the available Linux software alternatives every few years, but never hold my breath. I even donate to projects that show promise. It’s just not there yet. To make a claim that it is, for anyone but hobbyists, is asinine.

So many people are in that same “would if they could” boat. But you can’t simply restructure your entire workflow if the resulting workflow doesn’t work.
