I think its kind of a matter of interpretation? The “why” is that he either refused to bow before men (who he thought of as beneath himself), or, the less fun option, he just didn’t follow daddy’s wishes and got sent to the corner.

As for his “award”, that too is kind of…opaque. One way to interpret hell is as the absence of creation, as in literally outside of Yhwy’s world of creation. So either a new second world for unworthy creations to go when they end, or just literally a void of nothing, because to be removed from God’s world should be to be removed from reality.

Ideas about hell being a place where the unrighteous are tortured largely come from later, non-canonical stories, with the biggest name easily being Dante’s Inferno (which itself seemed to be largely about the author taking jabs at people from his own era that he didn’t like or agree with iirc).

I’m not a scholar on the subject tho, so take it with a grain. This is just what I’ve heard, and I’m quite sure that I’ve heard some incorrect and half-true things before.

Being in the right area is the first big step. The spot I first tried was in Seattle (Japonessa Sushi Cocina) and it was exceptional. Highly recommend it, though it isn’t exactly what I was talking about. It’s kind of more of a booksmart joint compared to the streetwise charm of the style it was inspired by, if that makes sense. Follows many of the same sensibilities, but has a bit more interest in subtlty.

The second spot I tried was in Houston. The name was something very generic and forgettable like ‘Sushi Tex-mex’, ‘Sushi Texas’ or something like that. More intense experience, in a good way. Of the two, I was surprised to find that I actually liked this place more, tho not by a whole lot. Bigger portions for less, and fast and loose with their ratios. I enjoyed that it was a less disciplined but equally earnest endeavor, I guess. I have the pallette of someone who would happily eat nothing but licorice and root beer if it wouldn’t run me ragged though, so make of that what you will.

And ofc the best place to try it is supposed to be where it came from; Mexico’s west coast. The carts are, from what I’ve heard, the best version of it by far. I haven’t been able to try this true authentic stuff yet because my country is making all of the worst choices it can atm (faster than usual, I mean), but if you’ve got the ability to travel safely, this is the spot to go looking.

And there are also supposed to be some places in southern California, but I haven’t been or heard more about them than that.

It really is. There is a growing genre of fusion cuisine buzzing around the mid NA continent that is basically sushi hardware with Mexican food software. Lots of fried dishes, as much flavor in each bite as they can fit (counter to typical sushi philosophy, but highly effective in practice), and a whole lot of staple ingredients of the area (think tons of onions, dairy, peppers, and spices etc).

Sushi that is confrontationaly tasty is basically the whole idea, and it is easily some of the best experimental cuisine I’ve tried in a long, long time. Can’t recommend it enough tbh

My favorite band (that has done a winter holiday release), kinda totally aced it, so I can’t relate on that. But Enya’s Day Without Rain is and has long been one of my all-time favorite no-skip albums. Especially Tempus Vernum, lately. My only complaint is that it wraps in under 3 minutes tbh

I swear its all true, but just to make it a little harder to believe for ya; 3 of the 4 mma guys (mr.necklace was the only one to stay cool as all hell) went on to join a cult led by a 70+yo man claiming he was Jesus who lived in a school bus that he’d renovated into a trailer house. The underage sister of a friend was being trafficked by them and managed to escape. They came looking. Lucky for us, they showed up expecting, at most, a couple emo kids, but we just happened have a few guys over that were training for mma that night, which means they got the ever-living-fuck beat out of them and never came looking again. One of the mma guys punched a tooth out of one of their heads, got it gold plated and keeps it on a necklace now lol

No trick or treaters in my neighborhood this year. Some teens were out and about making trouble (the fun, to be expected kind), but it seemed that parents took to other areas for the actual candy quests.

Got some of my decorations stolen tho, which brought a smile to mine. Reminds me of being a little hoodlum in my own younger days lol

I can agree if you take it at its most literal. I was thinking op didn’t believe people think that exact sequence of words tho, so much as similar, but softer, sequences over much longer periods of time. Like, a person thinking “I’m glad my son is a serial predator instead of gay” is almost definitely not happening anywhere, but thinking about the various factors that play into this kind of predation as the, unfortunately, often highly normalized things that they are, is happening in just about every corner of the earth.

Their phrasing wasn’t ideal, but what they’re expressing is, in my mind at least, very hard to argue in good faith as false.

Less short and sweet, but more punch to the point. I like it!
