That comment was really awful, just super nasty and totally uncalled-for interesting.

Technology@lemmy.world•Study Boldly Claims 4K And 8K TVs Aren't Much Better Than HD To Your Eyes, But Is It True?English
1·9 days agoYeah. They went from counting pixels by rows to columns. A 16:9 widescreen 1080 display is 1920×1080, and most manufacturers are happy to call 1920 “2K”.

5·11 days agoJust in case anyone was thinking “I’m gonna buy one and put ESPHome on it” or something, the microcontroller is a Beken 7525UQN68 which I’ve not been able to find any robust documentation for. It is Tuya, so that might be an angle of attack. The quality is shockingly good for such a small sensor and the included batteries are a pair of 18650s which was a nice surprise. I’m probably going to reset and return it or just drop it at a charity shop.

2·12 days agoThe voice actors for GTA radio DJs always seem to be having a good time. Too many to list, but Ruslana on Vladivostok FM and Iggy Pop on LRR in GTA IV both stand out to me.

4·12 days agoRockstar games have some pretty spectacular stories and acting and they’re just getting better, ever since GTA IV/RDR/LA Noire. RDR2 was one of the most heartbreaking and melancholy stories I’ve ever been told, game or otherwise. It’s a different genre, of course, but I have high hopes for GTA VI.

2·12 days agoYeah, my rule is that any Tuya device that uses Wifi is to be avoided. I’ve got plenty of Tuya bulbs and power meters that use Zigbee, though, and they’re alright but they talk directly to Home Assistant.

17·12 days agoTo confirm the suspicions, yes, it is Tuya. It actually says so on the box. I’m still going to grab one, though: quite often the chipset can be reprogrammed and the fact that the specs say it’s 2.4GHz only make me think they’re using something pretty old-fashioned like an ESP32. Tuya stuff that advertises being dual-band generally isn’t worth bothering with at all.

2·12 days agoLidl’s smarthome kit - specifically their lightbulbs - comes around once in a blue moon but is very good quality. Not up to the standard of Phillips, but on a par with IKEA.
I’ve never seen these used for condiments, but I used to see these being used all the time on soap dispensers in workshops.

🤓 ACKSHUALLY
It’s not possible for a heat pump - or anything - to even be 100% efficient, let alone 400%. Efficiency is measure of how much of the input energy gets converted to useful output energy, and since heat pumps don’t actually create heat the useful output is the compressor’s ability to pump refrigerant about. The Coefficient of Performance - the ratio between energy put in and useful work done - is 400% for a heat pump (give or take).

2·16 days agoWhen you’re not home it becomes part of the alarm system. When you are home it can turn on the lights or heating (or extractor fan in the bathroom) and you can aggregate it with other sensors to measure occupancy to turn those things off again. If you use Home Assistant (or something like it) you can use it to go anything that can be inferred from a door being used.
