in my 40+ years being Canadian i’ve YET to meet another fellow canuck that enjoys or watches curling. never. and yet they’ll show the absolute shit out of it on TV here. I don’t get it. We even have god damn curling clubs everywhere and I STILL have yet to meet anyone that loves it and plays it.

It’s just so bizarre. finding a hockey fan or simply someone who has played hockey? sure no prob, we all played as kids. But curling? never. I don’t get it. I think it’s some Canadian conspiracy or something. KDE is good but please, for the love of god KDE devs, you need to realize that some people…a lot of people actually…use more than one monitor.

Whenever I use Plasma I feel like I spend more time getting my windows arranged correctly across both my monitors with different workspaces. if each monitor had it’s own set of virtual desktops then it would be the perfect DE.

As someone who lives in Toronto they’re a god damn corrupt force that does jack all. it’s a damn weekly thing where you’ll read in the news ANOTHER Toronto cop on paid suspension for something. I’m not a lawyer nor am I by any means anything remotely close to a legal expert but I’m pretty sure in order for things to be illegal you actually have to enforce them. Seems like the US has forgotten how to do this…oh who am I kidding they’ve never enforced punishment on any illegal acts for the wealthy or those in power.

We know this. we have known this. If you’re rich and/or powerful enough the laws just don’t apply to you. No one is going to enforce laws on the DHS for fear or repercussions. that’s it. And no one is willing to even try it. Just look at that whole Bondi fiasco from this past week.

I loved the original Black & White way back in the day but I never really clicked with his other games, even Fable.

I just remember the mini documentary that Tech TV had on him that they would repeat over and over. and even way back then he was getting called out on his over promising for his games. like the original Fable was a fraction of what he promised it would be.

before I made the switch to Linux I never used a terminal. never. hell on Windows I even used a GUI for Git. I used sublime text as my IDE. if it wasn’t a GUI I was lost.

Then I switched to Linux and it forced me to actually sit down and learn the terminal and now…now I have a hard time using GUI’s. If something has a CLI or TUI option then I go for that over a GUI. like everything even my music player and video player. my IDE of choice now is DOOM Emacs. my file manager is Yazi. for Git I either use lazygit or just straight up the command line. but for everything else it’s just so much faster and in the long run easier to just use the terminal.

All that being said if you like GUI’s then hey more power to you and that’s fine. that’s the beauty of Linux. you run your system how you want to and don’t let others tell you otherwise. Hell I know a guy that uses NixOS and doesn’t have anything installed other than git and comma. he runs everything via comma. literally everything.

I use DOOM Emacs. is it potentially a bit of overkill? sure. but it’s got all the plugins I need, built in terminal, built in git tui, built in file manager, and depending on what i’m writing web dev stuff in it automatically sets up a sort of basic bootstrap for me.

Yes there is a bit of a learning curve but honestly I just don’t bother using anything else now.

I mean if I had it my way everyone would just go back to IRC, I still use IRC. it’s great, nothings changed, it’s perfect. combine that with like mumble or teamspeak and you’re good to go.

I checked out Stoat lastnight and it’s very slow. took well over an hour to get a verification email (I assume because many others were signing up) and the current server offerings are minimal. Also a good majority of the themes listed simply don’t work. it’s growing and I’d say it’s the best alternative right now but it’s not there yet and I worry it or the various instances of it could hold up if there was a massive Discord exodus.

Matrix is a no and xmpp ain’t much better.
