I am not by any means excusing Thom Yorkes or Johnny Greenwoods genocide and being a Radiohead fan in 2025 is me doubling down on separating the art from the artist. But I Just can’t find myself not listening to them, it’s impossible.
The reason I wanted to make this post is because of the recent article that came out where Thom is like “so anyway the witch-hunt keeps me up at night” over the backlash he’s received for his support of Israel… in that thread there were thousands upon thousands of commenters saying “Radiohead has always been bad” or “Radiohead is cringe.” Yeah, okay, like you aren’t their number one fan on Spotify wrapped and you weren’t anticipating to get a video message from them after being top 5% of their listeners…
This is the band that made OK Computer… the band that followed up with KID A… and you can type with a straight face “uhhh I never liked them anyway they were cringe…” I’ll take “I’m just preaching to the choir for 1200 Alex.” OK Computer is literally a commentary on everything we are existing in today, right now… just because the message was produced by NOW SHITHEADS Thom Yorke and Johnny Greenwood… does their art has to be dismissed in its entirety?
I saw another comment saying “their only good song was Karma Police and they’ll never make a hit like that again.” More lies. Radiohead makes music for THEM and the people who understand the music. I’m not trying to be the stereotypical “uhhh you just don’t know them, man…” but most people DONT know them and assume they’re the “Creep band” when in reality they are the ensemble that fine tunes their sound specifically with each record release. If they really wanted to, they could make a hit like Gangnam Style, they literally could make a song so popular it gets billions of streams around the world. Why don’t they do that? Because they have integrity and that’s rare these days when you have copy paste artists like Charlie XCX, Ellie Goulding, Taylor Swift who are copy paste and heavily manufactured by the industry replicating previous generations of music icons consisting of Whitney Houston and Lady Gaga… can you tell me then who Radiohead is trying to be other than themselves? I’ll wait. Oh, you can’t give me an answer? That’s because they are their own sound. We’re talking about the band that recorded The Bends and KID A at ABBEY FUCKING ROAD just before it got shut.
So, while their stance politically is immoral and subject to valid scrutiny, the music they make is some of the greatest we’ve ever been blessed with. To be alive the same time as OK Computer and In Rainbows is a one in a billion billion chance and that makes me a “Billionaire” in my eyes like that hack Bruno Mars made a song about, it might as well been about being a Radiohead fan

I’m not actually super into Radiohead itself, but more of what Thom Yorke and the smile made, the music is good and it’s easy to listen to, I wouldn’t say it’s my absolute favourite (unless it’s like zero sum or thin thing)
Their politics is absolutely dogshit and I’m distancing myself from their bands, but the music is good, I wish they weren’t all that.
