    You’re only allowed to date people older than you. So a 30 y.o. cannot date a 25 y.o., but a 25 y.o. is allowed to date a 30 y.o.

    Hope this clarifies

You mean he dated ADULTS?!? Scandalous!

Damn these people are really reaching for anything to pin on him aren’t they?

I mean, maybe they’re upset because 24 is a lot older than what most of their favorite creepo capitalist politicians have been caught with. epstein

Something tells me that this has to do with the fact that people have begun taking that whole oversimplified “Your brain doesn’t finish developing until you’re 25” pop science factoid at face value, with some people making the take that 25 should be the age of majority, even, with little to no pushback. It definitely reeks of some paternalistic virtue signaling about how “protective” of children these people think they are. The Dunning-Kruger effect is strong with this, too, because the people who say this appear to have a “I’m so smart because I base my view of this off the science!” sort of thought process.

      CW - Child Abuse

Bottom line is that if a policy like this were to have been enacted in my past, I would’ve literally died due to how my parents are.

People are so lacking in critical thinking skills that they consider reifying this neuroscientific misconception more important than people’s fucking lives.

And that’s not even me going into all the other troubling complications that something like this would bring.

Looks like that, like I said I had seen people getting mad about age gaps like a 25 year old dating a 21 year old and I was like this is a joke??

I’ve seen that number at higher than 25, usually it’s conveniently at whatever age the person spouting the bullshit is currently at. Funny how that happens, just a coincidence I’m sure.

Usually those spouting these “protective” takes will also post about how their children refuse to talk to them despite them being literal angels who’ve done nothing wrong ever, and if you look into their post history they’ll be justifying horrific physical abuse and “jokingly” threatening to murder their child’s (usually daughter’s) partner. It’s a control thing.

That would explain it. And like you said now it’s being weaponized to harm trans people, remove voting rights make abortion harder, etc.

Out of curiosity, do you know what’s being simplified or twisted with the whole brain is still developing until you’re 25 factoid?

The study this factoid is based on showed your brain continues to devolop and change until at least 25 (the oldest age they were studying). In reality the brain keeps devoloping past then too.

He met his wife on Hinge in 2021 so he had it set to at least 24 when he was 31. She’s 28 now btw which means if he had the age any higher they literally wouldn’t have met, she was 24 when they met.

This is all nonsense and nobody is pushing this as a bad thing in good-faith.

Do people not realise that is completely normal, in fact perfectly average, for the man to be a few years older in most heterosexual couples? Think the average gap is 2-4 years in most countries. Like this is just how life works out for the most part, across cultures and continents. This is how the world works, I have no idea why people are trying to shame perfectly normal human behaviour. The real world is not an eternal middle school, high school or undergraduate university/college, thank God.

I don’t think we should tolerate something because it is normal, we should tolerate it for actually being harmless (and this is harmless). There are countless practices that are “normal” and pointlessly harmful.

My citation is that my beating heart has revealed to me through visions of bodily awareness that there’s an age at which a fully grown adult is capable of telling anyone else in the world to fuck off. At that point it’s simply not my problem if they get into a weird age relationship. To me that number is 27 - so if a 27 year old wanted to date a 79 year old it’s just not my business. It’s a thing nobody need concern themselves with until one of them tries to retaliate or prevent the other from leaving then you might reasonably intervene by anything up to state power to collectively tell them to fuck off.

The point being I like the odds of a mentally and physically sound 24 year old from New York to be at the fuck off threshold 3 years early. “Doesn’t it make Mamdani weird if he wants to be in the weird age relationship?” 1) like you said it doesn’t break the rule of thumb. 1.5) If Mamdani has that same idea for a fuck off threshold of a New Yorker then it’s whatever to me. 2) he did the smart thing and was married by time he went to office where he was capable of having a power imbalance. 3) If we’re talking 30s and mid 20s I’m going to need more than just the age for it to be problematic enough to ping on the radar. It’s a slow day at the slop factory. 4) when it’s us-foreign-policy but you can’t quite prove it. 5) ayyyyyy! I’m walkin’ 'ere!

I hate power dynamics discourse. It’s kind of funny how like, nobody will ever date me on account of my being a homeless drug addict—because more than likely the rare fucking person who doesn’t think I’m disgusting will be so concerned about being “problematic.”

“When are we gonna talk about how this adult man set his dating range at the lowest as another adult who’s, usually speaking, out of college already for a few years years and nowhere near being a minor???” ffs I get being wary of certain age gaps but bro set it as his lowest too not like a specific requirement that a woman had to be 24 either. This “under 25” pop science shit needs to die they’re just giving more power to transphobes and the like who use it to ban trans healthcare for under 25s and don’t even connect the dots, same with abortion. Hell some of these morons even want it to be the age of majority and voting age. We need to have scientific education everywhere starting in like middle school istg.

I’m at the edge of gen-z and I do kinda participate, but only when it’s clear there’s some sort of power dynamic involved. Like a rich 45+ year old guy going for broke girls right out of college. Even then if the girl made that decision and had control of the situation it’s ultimately their decision…

Yeah, hence why I said there are some to be wary off but in this case it’s not an issue, and the whole snowball effect of some people now treating all adults under 25 as if they’re still children.

How sick it is to diddle a 25yo person! No pass. The whole political system would crumble if the gift of paedophilia wouldn’t oil it’s cogs!
